In other words, they do business with you automatically. They are also the ones who are most likely to respond to any specials, discounts, or promotions you put out there.<\/p>\n<p class=\"user-content__text text\">\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"user-content__text text\">At the same time, this is the same group that likes you personally, trusts you implicitly, and spreads positive word-of-mouth about your business and products. They leave you glowing reviews everywhere they go, and generate endless referrals when the opportunity comes up.<\/p>\n<p class=\"user-content__text text\">\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"user-content__text text\">They are, in essence, your most important and committed customers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"user-content__text text\">\n<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"user-content__title title title--h3\">Second, You Have \u201cCustomers of Convenience\u201d<\/h3>\n<p class=\"user-content__text text\">\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"user-content__text text\">Aside from your best buyers, you have a second group. These are your customers of convenience \u2013 the people who work with you because you\u2019re the closest, the fastest, or have the lowest price. Or perhaps they\u2019ve always bought from you, but don\u2019t necessarily feel any particular loyalty to you.<\/p>\n<p class=\"user-content__text text\">\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"user-content__text text\"><img alt=\"bad customer\" class=\"aligncenter responsive lazyload\" decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.weblinxinc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/bad-customer-jpg.webp\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 500px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 500\/278;\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"user-content__text text\">\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"user-content__text text\">There are two striking details about this customer group. The first is that they are far less responsive and profitable than your best customers are. They just aren\u2019t as engaged, and they aren\u2019t invested in your success. The second is that they can be taken from you at any time. If one of your competitors has a lower price, or something else that makes it more convenient to do business with them, they\u2019ll jump ship and start sending their money to another company.<\/p>\n<p class=\"user-content__text text\">\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"user-content__text text\">None of this is to say that these customers are <em class=\"user-content__em\">bad to have<\/em>, just that they aren\u2019t as important to your business is the first group.<\/p>\n<p class=\"user-content__text text\">\n<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"user-content__title title title--h2\">Why the Difference in Customers Types Matters<\/h2>\n<p class=\"user-content__text text\">\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"user-content__text text\">When you make it your goal to \u201cget more customers,\u201d you\u2019re thinking in a transactional sense. That leaves you open to the possibility of bringing in buyers from the second group, without attracting your most important fans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"user-content__text text\">\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"user-content__text text\">For long-term profitability, your marketing campaigns need to be focused on attracting the attention of men and women who are close (in terms of demographics or interest) to the people you already have in the first group. You want to bring in buyers who are to stick with you through thick and thin, and go out there and spread the word to other committed fans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"user-content__text text\">\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"user-content__text text\">Conversely, trying too hard or spending too much to appeal to convenience buyers is a losing proposition. You might be able to win them now, but they\u2019ll probably never do much for your bottom line, and you\u2019ll constantly have to bend over backwards to hold onto them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"user-content__text text\">\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"user-content__text text\">You can\u2019t find your best customers until you know exactly who they are.
